| What
we do
The Biomedical Ethics Research Group (BERG) was
established in mid 2002 to study and research into the ethical
considerations of biomedical issues in Islamic Republic of
Iran.
A group of highly motivated professionals and research experts
have gathered together in an ambitious atmosphere in order
to explore the local law civil act and Shia jurisprudence
for special considerations and the professional opinion in
each field with regard to newly emerged concerns about the
progress of biotechnology and the problems it may pose.
Affiliation
The Biomedical Ethics Research Group is committed
to establish a center for researchers and investigators in
genetics, biology, health and the allied fields to find the
colleagues and the set of facilities and affiliates to team
up with in the endeavor for clarifying the concept of bioethics
and its proponents' and opponents' viewpoints.
The Biomedical Ethics Research Group is sponsored by Research
Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Disease, an active
affiliate of Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.
BERG receives financial support from the university, and
has managed to win about ten national grants for research
on Bioethics.
Who we are
BERG interacts with national and international partners,
through grants, contributions, and other types of collaboration,
to explore international law and the opinion of other religions
and cultures in Biomedical Ethical issues. It also strives
to translate these ideas into subjective and documented considerations
regarding their analogues in Iranian resources.
BERG
tries to cooperate with several statutory and non-statutory
organizations, the voluntary and academic bodies and the
private sector involved in the Biomedical Ethical issues -at
national, regional and global levels. It also intends to
greatly endeavor to:
• Provide guidance to determine the ethical approaches in
the considerations proposed
• Defining major ethics-related challenges in biotechnology
and medicine.
• Assemble the experience and knowledge of those working
in the field.
• Provide evidence-based and consensus-derived knowledge
about ethics.
• Furnish legislative bodies with the above-mentioned information.
• Provide resources and considerable links for those working
in the field. |
