Research Priorities

RCGLD set a series of research projects in the field of gastroenterology and liver diseases. Now the milestones RCGLD is going to reach in short and long terms have been determined. Considering the increasing number of basic researches, RCGLD was actually founded to develop a close connection between basic research and clinical research following a Bed and Bench policy. RCGLD invests in doing basic research, Disease Oriented Research (DOR) and Patient Oriented Research (POR). Regarding the fact that studies in the field of POR are decreasing all over the world, RCGLD is planning to train some motivated physicians to do such fruitful researches. These physicians are learning such modern laboratory techniques as DNA sequencing, PCR, RFLP, FISH and ELISA in RCGLD laboratory.

The current trend of RCGLD research has been tailored to the burden of gastrointestinal and liver diseases in the country and includes the following priorities :

  • First line priorities:Foodborn disease and food safety (acute diarrheal disease), dyspepsia and antimicrobial resistance.
  • Second line priorities:Hepatitis (viral and autoimmune), all GI cancers (especially gastric and colorectal).
  • Third line priorities:Inflammatory bowel disease and chronic diarrhea .
  • All the above mentioned topics constitute over 300 research projects whose proposals have been provided by researches in each of RCGLD's scientific groups. Although basic studies are in the center of our focus, a large number of our projects target epidemiologic or clinical GI challenges. A number of the projects are part of the centers' joint ventures with international societies and scientific research centers.
For more details go please to each scientific group.
